Aspiring Leaders Workshop

An exciting opportunity has arisen to offer the following three workshops, aimed at colleagues who are looking to take on their first leadership role. The sessions are designed to give participants an understanding of team leadership and to help them develop the skills needed to take on a leadership role. Participants can buy into individual sessions to enhance their personal CPD, or purchase the whole Aspiring Leader training programme.

Vicki Jordan is an independent leadership consultant. She has a background in primary leadership and has worked for the last 10 years in local government developing leadership development programmes for colleagues working in schools. She has worked for government agencies such as the Training and Development Agency and The National College for Teaching and Leadership. Her vast experience has also included developing many bespoke as well as national programmes for leaders at various levels. After 10 years working for local government she has decided to branch out as an independent consultant, enabling her to follow her passion and work directly with school colleagues.

Session 1. What is leadership about?

- understanding the role of the middle leader

- understanding self and own developing leadership strengths

- understanding how others see the world

- understanding basic types of leaders and when you might use them

Session 2. How do I lead a team?

- understanding team dynamics

- understanding how to lead teams in different ways

- how to hold really effective meetings

- how do I develop others

Session 3. How do I lead change and develop my area of responsibility?

- understanding change

- managing change - blockers, advocates and willing followers etc.

- how do I manage resistance?

- how do I know that things are working? What do I look for?

Middle Leaders Workshop

The following four workshops are aimed at colleagues who have taken on their first leadership role. The sessions are designed to give participants an in-depth understanding of effective leadership and successful team building, and to develop the skills needed to take on this challenging and exciting role. Participants can attend individual sessions or the full programme of four sessions.

Session 1. What are the characteristics and behaviours of a middle leader?

- leadership characteristics / behaviours of a middle leader

- what is my style? What about the style of others? How do I best utilise this?

Session 2. How do I develop a really effective team?

- using the strengths and skills of others

- managing resistance

- developing others

- coaching to improve performance

Session 3. How do I lead change?

- understanding the change curve

- change tools

- managing great performance and managing resistance

Session 4. How do I know I am making a difference?

- using sources of evidence

- developing an impact evaluation model with the team

- engaging the team in evaluation
